I had so much fun photographing (plus enjoying my time as a “guest”) at Madhu and Josh’s two-day wedding celebration. The couple decided to have two ceremonies to honor both the Hindu and Christian wedding traditions.
Day 1 was the Iyengar wedding held in the Sri Venkateswara Swami (Balaji) Temple in Aurora, IL. All the colorful sarees and floral arrangements made this day so bright and beautiful! Madhu actually wore three different sarees throughout the Iyengar ceremony. As fun as it is to wear different sarees, changing outfits actually follows Iyengar wedding rituals. I am definitely not qualified to explain everything that happened at this ceremony, but if you are interested in learning more about Iyengar wedding traditions, Quora has a decent explanation of the rituals. 🙂
Day 2 was the Christian ceremony and reception, held at Paramount Meyer’s ballroom. The ceremony itself was pretty traditional, but I would still call this day to be a bit of a “fusion” wedding. The groom and groomsmen donned suits, but Madhu and her bridesmaids wore lehenga. Lehenga is a traditional Indian outfit worn by women during weddings. The main course was Indian food (which honestly is amazing… chicken tikka masala anyone?), and the evening was capped off by choreographed dances on Bollywood songs. I personally really enjoyed watching the performances as they were full of so much energy and fun!
Madhu & Josh, thank you for having me at your wedding! I had such a great time, and I am happy that I got to capture this special time in your lives!!
