Your college graduation photo session is a celebration of years of hard work and unforgettable memories. Taking a few steps to prepare ahead of time will allow your session to feel effortless and enjoyable. Here’s a complete checklist of what to bring to your graduation photo session — plus a few pro tips to help you look and feel your best.
1. Cap, gown, stole(s), cords, or honor regalia
This might sound obvious, but don’t forget the essentials:
Pro Tip: Steam or wrinkle-release your gown and any stoles before your session. Wrinkles—especially in stoles—are very noticeable in photos. If wrinkle-free details are important to you, taking care of this ahead of time makes a big difference. A handheld garment steamer such as this one is a super helpful tool to have on hand.
2. Props & personal touches
Any and all props are welcome! This is your shoot, so bring whatever is important to you. In the past, I have had graduates bring:
-Diploma covers
-Champagne bottle(s)
-Confetti (biodegradable only such as
these)
-A bouquet of flowers
-Dogs
-Academic items to represent future career (books, stethoscope, etc)
-Club and hobby related items
-Cultural or meaningful family items
3. Walking Shoes
Campus sessions often involve quite a bit of walking. Besides your photo-ready shoes, consider bringing a comfy backup pair (sneakers or flats) for walking between locations.
4. Touch-Up Essentials
You may want to consider bringing:
-A hairbrush or comb

5. Weather Ready Items

-Light or heavy jacket depending on the day (wear when walking to next location or in between shots)
