Whether you’re updating your LinkedIn profile, refreshing your portfolio, or capturing your team’s professional presence, Madison, Wisconsin offers a variety of indoor locations that make headshots truly stand out. From clean natural light to architecturally rich backgrounds, these spaces provide versatility and style—without ever stepping outside.

1. Madison Central Library — 3rd Floor

This is one of my most frequently requested headshot locations. The 3rd floor of the Madison Central Library features tall, floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with soft, flattering natural light. Even better, this location is free to use, as long as the space is not reserved for a library event.

2. Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA)

If you’re looking for a bit more visual interest in your background, MMoCA is a great option. I typically photograph headshots in the stairway, where modern architectural details and dramatic lines add depth without overpowering the subject. A permit is required for all posed photography at MMoCA. If you choose this location, an additional $35 permit fee will be added to your session.

3. Overture Center for the Arts

You might think of the Overture Center primarily as a performance venue, but it’s also an excellent location for headshots and portrait sessions. The lobby areas, stairways, and architectural nooks create dynamic, polished images, and the space offers an abundance of natural light. My favorite area for sessions is the Promenade Lobby. A permit is required to photograph here, and selecting this location adds a $108 permit fee to your session.

4. Studio Space

Sometimes the perfect headshot calls for complete control—and that’s where a studio shines. Studios are ideal if you prefer clean, solid backdrops or want space for multiple outfit changes. I work with several studios in the Madison area, and you can expect a studio rental fee averaging $150, in addition to your session fee.
