I love photographing standard engagement sessions, but it’s fun to do something a little different. In Colorado, ski engagements and even ski weddings are pretty popular (or snowboard engagements and weddings… I didn’t forget about you all too. 🙂 )
I was happy that Casey and John were super excited about the idea of taking on an adventurous engagement photoshoot! We met up at Arapahoe Basin – one of their favorite places to ski in Colorado. I think any of the Colorado ski resorts would have made for great backdrops, but I like that A-basin is smaller and typically less crowded.
If you are comfortable on the slopes, skiing with a professional camera is doable but it’s definitely an experience. On more downhill areas, I found it worked best to clip out of my skis in order to capture the best angles. This did not come without some complications. I didn’t realize the snow was so deep on A-basin’s East wall, and my boots sunk in the snow – almost all the way up to my hip! Shoutout to Casey for pulling me out of the snowbank.
Our March ski day was pretty sunny and a little cold, but Casey and John were up for anything I threw at them. Enjoy some of my favorite images below.
